Quantitative PCR

Quantitative PCR (qPCR) and reverse transcription qPCR (RT-qPCR) are utilized to monitor the amplification of a targeted DNA molecule and for quantification of mRNA, microRNA and lncRNA expression, respectively. It is well known that qPCR-based approaches for gene expression studies have a superior sensitivity, specificity, linear dynamic range of quantification, as well as a high level of flexibility, making RT-qPCR the gold standard for targeted expression analysis in the diagnostic space.

Applications of qPCR at Biogazelle

Over the years, Biogazelle has performed various qPCR projects for its customers, both in research and clinical trial settings, including:

  • quantification of miRNA expression in body fluids, including a miRNA-specific PCR based pre-amplification step
  • optimization of a diagnostic RT-qPCR based test on sorted cells
  • measuring a multi-gene signature in whole blood in the frame of a clinical trial
  • quantification of gene expression in cell lysates, including a gene-specific PCR based pre-amplification step
  • validation of a multi-gene signature in FPPE samples from a disease mouse model
  • SNP genotyping
  • customized qPCR-based applications such as detection of RCR/RCL in PBMCs
As an expert qPCR service provider, Biogazelle supports any qPCR-based application, using either off-the-shelf assays or through custom primer design.

Our founders are internationally recognized qPCR experts

Biogazelle’s founders Prof Jo Vandesompele and Dr Jan Hellemans have published landmark papers in the field of qPCR-based gene expression analysis, being cited more than 20,000 times. In our laboratories, we have processed tens of thousands of clinical samples, including various types of body fluids and FFPE material using qPCR for quantification of both protein coding messenger RNAs and non-coding microRNAs and long non-coding RNAs.
